What Is AI Search Readiness?
AI assistants like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google’s AI Overviews answer questions by reading web pages. Before they can quote or recommend you, their crawlers have to be allowed in, your content has to be readable without running JavaScript, and your pages have to make clear who you are and what you offer.
This checker tests those foundations: which AI crawlers your robots.txt allows or blocks, whether your main content is in the raw HTML, whether you publish an llms.txt file, and whether your structured data and trust pages describe your business clearly. It measures readiness. No tool can guarantee that an AI will cite you.
How to Check Your AI Search Readiness
- Step 1
Enter your URL
Use your homepage first, then your most important product or guide page.
- Step 2
Review bot access
The table shows each crawler, who runs it, what it’s used for, and whether your robots.txt allows it.
- Step 3
Fix the gaps
Open each failed check for plain-English steps: unblock search bots, add llms.txt, add Organization schema, put key content in the HTML.
Try the AI Visibility Monitor
Go beyond readiness: track whether ChatGPT and Perplexity actually mention your brand, week after week. Free to start, no credit card.

Mistakes That Hide You From AI
Blocking every bot with “AI” in its name
Fix: Separate training bots (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended) from search and browsing bots (OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, PerplexityBot). Block training if you want; keep search bots allowed if you want to be cited.
Content that only appears after JavaScript runs
Fix: Use server-side rendering or static generation so the text is in the first HTML response.
No clear statement of who you are
Fix: Add Organization schema with your name, logo and official profiles, plus an About page.
Thin pages with no direct answers
Fix: Answer the questions customers ask in plain sentences, with the answer in the first line.

Questions about the AI Search Readiness Checker
Does this tell me if ChatGPT mentions my brand?
No. It checks whether AI tools can reach and understand your site. To track actual mentions, use the AI Visibility Monitor.
Should I block GPTBot?
It’s a business choice. GPTBot collects training data. Blocking it doesn’t stop ChatGPT search (OAI-SearchBot) or browsing (ChatGPT-User) from reading your pages if you allow those.
Is llms.txt required?
No. It’s a voluntary proposal from llmstxt.org that some tools read. It’s quick to add and does no harm.
Does Google use a separate crawler for AI Overviews?
AI Overviews use Google Search’s normal crawling (Googlebot). Google-Extended only controls use of your content for Gemini model training.
How often should I check?
After any change to robots.txt, your CDN or bot-protection settings, and about once a month.
Track whether AI actually mentions you
The AI Visibility Monitor asks ChatGPT and Perplexity about your niche every week and shows whether your brand is mentioned or cited.
